Artist's Comments

Motherless girl and her Dad move in with another family.

Her father (Tony) helps out a single Mom and her son. The little boy's Grandmother stays in her place in the back. Remember the show?

Guess who.

She grew up.

Watercolor

Her name is Alyssa Milano.

(I knew someone would be able to tell me. Thanks.)

Critiques

:iconkhlasher:
I think the composition is wonderful. The shadows and lighting are outstanding. The proportions are perfect. All in all this image is well defined and well executed. There was a lot of thought that went into this piece. The subjects eye seems to be looking into my soul as I look into its. I do not know the sitcom but I do know I would be happy to give this painting as a gift. Melanie did a super job and deserves more recignition for her outstanding abilities. I will definitely add this image to my favorites. I can only expect more outstanding works in the future.

Wow! Writing a critique was harder than I thought. I am not a writer and find it hard to find the words to express my feelings about most subjects. :typerhappy: But your image compelled me to offer my feelings about it. Hope you feel my critique is fair.
:iconmelanierogers:
Are you kidding? I'm afraid people will think I paid you so say such nice things. !!!

I reponded on the critique already.

I switched her category so she can be a print.

I don't know if it will have the correct 5% bleed edge. I'm learning.

Beautifully arranged and rendered; exceptionally sophisticated work...
The show absolutely will not come to mind-- single dad, Tony, and his daughter move in with single mom and her son whose grandma lives in the back-- it's possible I never saw this show... :faint:

The show was maybe early 80's? I couldn't think of it either. She didn't hit it big as an adult actress, but made a few things.

I believe it was called "Whose the Boss"...Tony Danza, is that right, was cast as her father? Does that ring any bells?

I couldn't even remember her name. I had a habit of tearing pictures out of cast off magazines. I didn't even consciously know I could paint when I first started doing that. I put them in a file labeled "The Dream". I wouldn't even allow myself to know what my dream was, honestly.*

I had no idea I would one day need to reference them, because my art would receive exposure where it would even matter.

I'm not a big tv fan. Haven't watched it at all in 10 years. I do watch movies though.

I chose this image to adapt for my Christmas card I paint for family and friends. I portrayed her as Mary, waking up to an angel telling her she would have a baby, and HIS kingdom would never end.

So, it is a portrait of two, actually. Mary, and Gabriel -- the angel delivering his message to her. That is why I played up the brightness.

Love stuff like that.

I'm on shaky ground, as to understanding about the copyright, photographer rights. I now understand it is acceptable to paint famous faces, if they are not associated with a character. I researched Oz, and if I understand the complexity correctly, I am free to paint more from that movie. They are on my list!

My preference would have been to simply post the painting. Just trying to be respectful of photographers. Whoever took that picture created a beautiful jumping off point for me. I did give it the glow and "blurred out" the detail of her body.

I was very pleased with the choice of words you used to describe the way I rendered her, and arranged it.

Note, I have computer issues. I mention it in my journal, I am trying to get things fixed at my house. So, this is coming from a friend's computer.

I'll be trying to finish something tonight that I wanted to enter in the Fantasy Club Contest. I think tomorrow is the deadline.

That is next thing I am checking before going home. I'll be experiencing a short computer imposed absence. Or, at least, slowing down.

* I had to be given a radiology report that said I was dying of cancer before the dream cried out in words I couldn't pretend I didn't hear. I read in black and white, on a piece of paper, that I had "no someday"...I was told I would die, and the first thing I thought was, but I wanted to paint someday.

How's that for a "deathbed" experience? It still took time to work itself out, but I'm living in my someday now. Very much like never-never land! I passed my "expiration date" quite a while back. Apparently that cancer was only sent as a blessing in disguise.

 Sounds like you've lived through some difficult times-- how did you find deviantART? Did an artist friend tell you about it, or did you just find yourself here one day? I stumbled on to this web site totally by accident one day at work.
I know the show you're talking about-- this actress's name is Alyssa Milano-- she's extremely beautiful...

:iconmelanierogers:
thanks!

I have wanted for such a long time to make collage.

I'm like the cowardly lion :iconmoarplz:
with art. hah, hah. Scared growl, hiss.

I truly do appreciate the encouragement. :iconcrypigplz: get up and go for it Melanie!

Course, I don't know why I'm so concerned about getting out there and making collages. I leave them everywhere. Ahem. My rely/comments.
